Savvy Mac users usually know when Apple's product refresh times are. Historically the company has several known periods where they release desktops or laptops or a new iphone or Pro software.

Prior to these dates, the "trendy" Ipad user would dump their current generation unit on Ebay or some other site and buy the newer unit with a very small difference in price. No need to burn a hole in the pocket if one pays attention to the rumors and smart sells the device.

That's what I did with my top of the line 64GB 3G Ipad and I will be buying the new revision Ipad when it comes out.

I always get the best prices for my gear when I sell it due to keeping items in immaculate condition.

"Almost all of the many predictions now being made about 1996 hinge on the Internet's continuing exponential growth. But I predict the Internet will soon go spectacularly supernova and in 1996 catastrophically collapse."

I'm not sure that IT is as much "on the decline" as is being re-distributed. For a number of reasons, least of all the advent of "cloud computing". Of course, it’s changed the way we compute. It's laid the foundations for what we now know as software-as-a-service. The Company simply doesn't need the sorts of software and hardware resources it used to need 10 years ago. And with that, out goes the IT department along with it. I heard a man say recently that, as bandwidth and security gets better, there won't even be a notion of a "cloud ". Serving data and applications is just going to be like serving up electricity. Business has quickly caught on that, with the present and future state of technology, outsourcing the IT department as a managed service will directly affect the company's bottom line. Alarming words for the unprepared systems engineer whom better tune-in to how and where they'll fit in as a resource in years to follow because it won't be in the form of a traditional IT department unfortunately.
With the separation of the traditional IT department, IT will continue to consolidate and grow into its own dedicated organizations that provide consultation and solutions as a managed service.

As a former Vistage chair, it's great to read about your experience with your group. I especially enjoyed your response to Ric. Yes, Vistage demands an investment of time and dollars... but where else can you put 14 CEOs and a personal coach on your team for the price? I wish you every success! -- Ken
