Choosing the Right Service Provider: 6 Tips for Making a Heavenly I.T. Match

Last month, I did an interview with SmartBusiness “Insights” where I offered my advice and experience on how companies, particularly small to medium-size businesses, can determine which I.T. service provider is a good fit for their organization.  As anyone who has dealt with service providers in general (not just I.T.) knows, it doesn’t always turn out the way one had planned.

That being said, once you’ve “been around the block” enough times, there are specific things you can look for when choosing an I.T. partner.  Pulled “straight from the headlines” here is an excerpt from the interview.  I’ve included a link at the end for the full article.  Tell me your thoughts? Am I spot on or am I missing something?

1. Years in business: “….When looking at years in business, it’s important to see whether or not the company has survived the last two recessions. If they have survived the 90′s bubble and/or the 2008 meltdown, that’s a good sign…”

2. References from your industry: …”My recommendation: hire an IT firm who can provide references in your industry, and call those references.”

3. Industry certifications: “IT is one of those areas where you don’t need any sort of minimum certification practice….make sure certifications are current..”
