It is my honor and privilege to write the content for this section of our website. Over the years of building a business, I’ve had a recurring question enter my mind, and in the last couple of years, it has happened even more frequently. The question has been “What am I doing this for?”

Of course there is the obvious answer – our mission statement: “To deliver world class I.T. Support, Consulting, and Management Services, from the desktop to the datacenter, providing our clients and employees’ growth and prosperity.” I work endless hours to accomplish this objective, and by and large, the time that I dedicate to this wonderful organization called Cal Net has provided much fruit in the way of friends (both clients and coworkers), financial resources, and a daily purpose.

However, over the years, my desire for further crafting my purpose has become more pressing. I knew there was something more that I should be doing. After searching long and hard for a place to dedicate my time, talent, and treasure, I found that place called Opportunity International, and now serve on their Board of Governors.

Opportunity International is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the working poor. We provide small loans that allow poor entrepreneurs to start or expand a business, develop a steady income, provide for their families and create jobs for their neighbors. We also offer savings, micro insurance, business training and many more services to 1.1 million working poor in 28 developing nations.

The reason that Opportunity International appealed to me, was that they help create entrepreneurs who in turn help create their own local economies in the most impoverished places on the planet. So, instead of giving a “hand out” Opportunity is giving a “hand up.” A donation to Opportunity International lasts a lifetime, as the donation funds a loan, that gets paid back, plus interest, and then funds another loan, that gets paid back, plus interest and the cycle continues….Forever.
